Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen: Xcaret Arte

Updated: Mar 3, 2023

Everything you need to know to book a honeymoon at the world's best all-inclusive resort.

After planning my wedding in Greece during the pandemic and an additional week in Portugal, I did not want to plan my honeymoon. We almost didn't even have a honeymoon for this reason. BUT, I am so glad we did because this resort was out of this world.

Infinity pool views...

Before we begin, I must tell about how I came across this resort. Part of the research that I do when planning a trip is watching Youtube videos about the food, weather, activities, and of people just walking around the towns. This video was so click-baity, titled "Mexico's Best All-Inclusive" and created by someone I don't follow or know. But Lost LeBlanc GOT ME (and I started following him on all socials). I was hooked and naturally started to look up how I was going to get myself (and my soon-to-be-husband) to Mexico.

I'll give you a spoiler: It wasn't difficult convincing him and we booked within the week. We only stayed for four nights, but damn, we should've stayed longer.

What to Pack for Mexico in July

Truth be told, I've only ever been to Mexico during the summer months. It averages 85 degrees which is perfect beach weather. It's not too humid either, but I left my curling iron at home anyways. You will obviously need a few swimsuits and a pair of slides/flops. This resort has a lot of opportunities to be active so bring some sweat wicking clothes and runners too. Coverups are required for all restaurants and food spots. And Maxi dresses are perfect for dinner and late nights at the speakeasy. BRING BUGSPRAY!! I got chowed. I never wore heels and didn't feel underdressed without them. Toiletry wise, the resort has the basics, but you'll need to leave the resort if you forget anything super specific.

The Vibes

This resort celebrates the art and culture of Mexico. So much so that you can create art of your own. But we will touch on that later. Be prepared to be wowed with the architecture and detail around every corner.

Xcaret Arte is made up of five Casas or towers. Each of these towers branch off the main Casa, Casa del Patrón, which is the hub of the resort. This makes getting around super easy. When we checked in, we were offered to upgrade from a casa with a lagoon view to a casa with an ocean view. Initially we were going to have to pay for the upgrade, but a quick phone call to a manager (honestly, I think it was a fake phone call) gave us the upgrade for free.

What we actually missed out on was the upgrade to the Artista's casa. This casa costs more to book but it comes with a private restaurant (the highest ranked of course), a private rooftop bar, and 24/7 butler service. Guess it just means I have to go back!

Alright so, the rooms. Your bed is in the middle of the room looking up to a beautiful domed ceiling, there is both a jacuzzi tub and rainfall shower equipped with the spa's signature scents, and with your nightly turndown service, you are gifted hand-made Mexican treats. Negatives? My room had mosquitoes so I literally went to bed with bug lotion on my whole body.

This is neither here nor there, but I loved that this resort was secluded. On one side of you is the ocean and the other side is the jungle. There are no other resorts within eyesight and that really helped with the relaxation factor.

The Eats

So this is where things get really good...

Most all-inclusive resorts have just average food. There, I said it. I am half Puerto-Rican with a ton of Mexican relatives. I know good Mexican food. And this place.....the food was just to die for. There are ten restaurants to choose from. HOWEVER, one is for that exclusive casa, one is not included in the all-inclusive and requires you to pay per person, and at least three others require reservations. I tried making reservations before I arrived, but the resort did not respond. Then, only one restaurant had a reservation available for our four night stay. The food at all of the restaurants was great, but we had high hopes to eat at all of the locations.

But wait, there's more. You can actually go over to the family-friendly Xcaret resort and eat at all of their restaurants as well. One of our favorite meals was eating at the Brazilian steakhouse which is also located in a cave!

There are several bars (one at each and every pool) and there is the oh-so-swanky speakeasy for those late nights. I'm not going to tell you where the speakeasy is, because that would be no fun, but it took us about twenty minutes to find the entrance. They play live music and are open till 4am! There is another bar that plays live music and that one get's pretty poppin' too. So you have options.

Ps. My husband is going to kill me when he sees himself in all these photos, but at least he's good looking!

How To Pass The Time

Full disclosure - I did not leave the resort. That means I did not experience any of the Xcaret parks (they are all included in your booking fee), but I still had an amazing honeymoon.

I am just going to give you my daily schedule that I adopted while I was there. My husband would hit the gym every morning ( I joined him every other day) and it is a pretty well-

equipped gym for a resort. Then we would hit Cayuco for breakfast. It is a buffet and located right at the main pool. We would then grab some pool chairs and lay in the sun for a few

hours.

Around noon we would hit Mercado de San Juan which is this beautifully decorated market where you can find any food you fancy. After lunch we would head to the rooftop pool. To be honest, we sound like a bunch of bums, but we really needed the down time.

After a few hours at the rooftop pool, we would go and get ready for dinner. Some nights we would get drinks after dinner and other nights we would turn in early. We kept to ourselves for the most part, but again we had just been on social overload so we were pretty content. On our last day we had booked massages at Muluk Spa. At the very least, I would recommend buying a day pass to the spa just to experience the hot/cold therapy they provide. I had planned to do one of the art activities (tile-making) but it was going to cut into my spa time and I just couldn't part with that!

Final thoughts? I need to go back, and I will be bringing ALL of my friends and family.
